Due to its proximity with Phuket Town and Chalong Bay, Rawai beach is one of the favorite of Thai residents, who come to picnic with their families and friends. Therefore there are many Thais selling delicious seafood and shellfish. Meanwhile, Rawai hosts one of the best seafood fresh market of Phuket where the famous sea gypsies, the first inhabitants of the island, sell the product of their nighttime fishing.
Unlike West coast white sandy beaches, Rawai beach is not the most beautiful of Phuket but the waters are not deep at all and are safe for children. At low tide, many persons come to collect shellfish and crabs.
Many long-tail boats and speedboats are anchored in the bay and can be hired for trips to nearby islands, such as Coral Island which is only 10 minutes away and provides with colorful coral reefs.
